Captiva Island , Florida
I flew in from Seattle, WA to Fort Myers, FL to see my mom last year. She lives on Fort Myers Beach. Around spring break, this is THE place to be if you like to party.
I showed up just after spring break last year, so by that time, the number of tourists were down a bit. Their summer is everyone's winter in the rest of the country. It starts getting too hot for comfort around May through the summer.
We visited Captiva and the string of islands next to it. It's really, really beautiful. The water is very crystal clear. My mom had a friend that worked at RC Otters on Captiva. It is a nice restaurant with a bar that has a pretty good view. Since it's pretty flat all around there, the simple two story building has a view for miles.
I don't know what time of the year it happens but I hear the sea turtles come have their babies on the Florida beaches and you can see hundreds of the little guys racing for the sea! My advice is either get to Florida before spring break or just after to avoid the crowds, and enjoy the wonderful weather there. There's so many beautiful things to see and so much to do!
